Look, at fourteen minutes, it's an investment because who in this age of instant gratification and the adoration of bright, shiny, disappearing things, has fourteen whole minutes to devote to a single video? You should, because this mashup from Ithaca Audio will have you swiveling your hips, pumping your fist, tapping your toes and hopefully digging back into your record collection. And "digging back into your record collection" is, of course, intended as a metaphor for "cruising Spotify." These relentlessly-creative, hyper-ambitious, detail-obsessed people have built a timeline for the history of rock and roll — not a novel concept, by any stretch — and foisted it into a bizarro alternate reality where neaerly 400 modern music icons, breathing and deceased, use their Facebook pages to like other bands, to share videos with each other and to leave photo comments on why various artists are important or influential. Dredging the archives for hundreds of quotes from these musos surely commanded an inordinate chunk of time, but then they stitched together a panoply of anthemic riffs, melodies and hooks in one exhilarating track, festooned with a throttling undercarriage of clubby beats and dazzling video footage. One can easily imagine this whole track enrapturing a sweaty dance floor full of pupil-dilated party people hell-bent on outlasting the night. Seriously, I was still in bed when I finally clicked "Play" and when The Immigrant Song kicked in, I nearly sprang out of bed and shouted out my window. Just check this out.
