A Much-Needed Feel-Good Story About A Couple Of Dudes Who Rule
Today's attacks in Belgium have stirred up all of those vitriolic tides of rage within me as I consider the devastating and cowardly violence that extremist half-wits continue to visit upon the world. I find myself in a "Two Wolves Conundrum," from that old Cherokee parable, where the bitter young kid goes to his grandfather, roiling at some gnarly injustice that's eating him up, and his grandfather sits him down and tells him that we each have two wolves within us, fighting for dominance. One finds harmony with all beings and places around him and only fights when necessary and when he fights, he does so with honor. The second wolf is consumed with hatred and seeks conflict with all that comes within his view. The boy asks which one wins the fight and the grandfather says, "The one I feed." Right now I want to feed the first wolf because in the face of incomprehensible depravity and sadness, we can never have too many stories about the honest-to-goodness real people out there who make this insanity livable.So... this couple in Tallahassee were right about to have a baby on Saturday morning and a friend on the scene unleashed the following group text to share the news: "We are at the hospital. Having a baby today! She has dilated to between 5-6.” (Note to pregnant friends — don't ever text me to tell me how far the missus is dilated. Sweet Jesus... TMFI) One of the text recipients, Dennis Williams, received the text in error — he had zero idea who these people were — and texted back, "Congrats lol but I think someone got the wrong number."Understandably, the baby-havers weren't paying a ton of attention to their phones and shortly after their band new strapping young lad popped out, the sender group texted a picture of a woman holding him. As fate would have it, Dennis -- again, a wrong number -- turned out to be a rather fantastic human being who, still having no idea who the couple were who had just had a baby, replied, “Well I don’t know Yall but me and the boys will be thru to take picture with the baby.” I shit you not. So Dennis and his brother Deorick picked up some prezzies and rolled over to the hospital, where they congratulated the couple in person and took a snapshot with the planet's newest resident. After realizing what had transpired, the rogue texter took to Facebook to share the story with her friends:“I accidentally text a message about Mark and Lindsey having a baby to a number I had in my phone for someone else which now belongs to Mr. Dennis Williams and he and his brother came by to visit us and bought the baby a gift! What a blessing these two guys were to our family. They were so sweet and kind to do this! You 2 are great guys and thank you for giving to someone you didn’t know! Many blessing I pray for you. I think his brother was Derrius (sic) Williams. Cason Knox, Lindsey, & Mark Lashley thanks you. Please share this with anyone you know and hopefully these guys will see. If we all only had this kind of heart."Deorick shared the whole business on his Facebook page – a post that has gone euphorically viral in the past three days.
