Drink Bourbon and Save Australian Music!
AC/DC have launched a new product this week - a limited edition bourbon and cola beverage commemorating the many iconic releases of the Australian rockers. To maximize profits, the band are releasing limited edition batches in staggered runs throughout the year, with each batch featuring a different can that will showcase various AC/DC album covers. So even if the beverage tastes like lemur urine, you're going to have to buy at least ten four-packs (based on the promo photo) to round out your collection. The inaugural batch features Rock Or Bust and it looks like subsequent runs of this fizzy elixir will celebrate Powerage, For Those About To Rock and Back In Black.A portion of the proceeds — and where Australian music is saved — go to the band's new "Let There Be Rock" fund, the goal of which has not been identified in either the press release nor the band's web site, other than "It’s all about equipping up-and-coming Aussie bands with everything they need to be the future icon of Australian music." So if any of you, like me, were thinking that some of this might go to charity like, say, an Alzheimer's charity, you're apparently mistaken. That said, getting money and resources to up-and-coming bands is always a good thing and hopefully this concept gets traction and helps raise the profile of legitimate Aussie talent. There will also be a competition where Australian music talent (so if you're a talented band from New Zealand, LOL), can submit covers of any Acca Dacca song in any style and then "go in the draw to win some incredible prizes and once-in-a-liftetime industry experiences." It's unclear whether such industry experiences include getting raked over the coals by a label, having junkies steal thousands of dollars of equipment from your van or catching an STD from a German roller derby girl after a sloppy show in Frankfurt. It's also unclear whether submissions are judged or evaluated for quality, what with the whole "in the draw" concept implying that any of us could sing Highway To Hell while slapping the kitchen table and apparently "go in the draw" with the same odds as the Perth Symphony Orchestra's version of Thunderstruck.Pillaging the fan base even further, the band have announced a #showusurcans (Get it? "Cans?") social media competition, where people posting pictures of themselves with the beverages can win prizes including a signed Gibson SG and some pretty amazing tour packages to the UK.Click here for more details:
