Atmospheric Black Metallers, NIHILISTINEN BARBAARISUUS, Release New Video
Just caught word of the new video for "Anhedonia" from ambient black metallers, NIHILISTINEN BARBAARISUUS. I'd never really listened to these guys before, but this is the kind of black metal that puts hair on my chest. Galloping blastbeats and dark atmospherics abound, and as much as I've always enjoyed the lo-fi menace of the early-90s BM renaissance, I find the more celestial texturing of bands like these guys and Agalloch enormously compelling. That said, we haven't heard anything from NIHILISTINEN BARBAARISUUS since the 2013 EP, the "Väinämöinen", released by Infernal Kommando Records both on cassette and as a free download on the band's bandcamp page. "Väinämöinen" features a guest appearance by up and coming Progressive Death Metal act Black Crown Initiate's James Dorton on vocals, plus other session members.
Apparently they've got a new lineup and are currently working on a full-length, based on the Finnish national epic, "The Kalevala." Looking forward to seeing what these guys do with a new lineup and a full album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnHMCgUKxF0
